Japan's tradition of sake making began more than 2,000 years ago shortly after rice cultivation was introduced from China. As expected, Sake has since evolved into a more refined beverage and become internationally known.In 1637, Gekkeikan's founder, Jiemon Okura established his sake brewery in the town of Fushimi, a location just south of Kyoto, well-known for its abundant and high-quality water. It was his location and access to the ideal ingredients that enabled Okura and his successors' to thrive.
Today, Gekkeikan is one of the world's leaders in Sake and have expanded their facilities to California, all while maintaining their passion and commitment to producing a premium sake.
Gekkeikan Black & Gold Sake is a unique product, as it blends our Gekkeikan's Traditional and Haiku sake. Like a fine blended whiskey, the distillery has a brewmaster who selects the best of each fermentation to bring out the finest from both sake types. The result is a beautifully balanced sake that is suitable for a variety of occasions and dishes.
